Every picture frame in her house... was empty. Every single one. Her husband David had been dead two years. The town called it a boating accident. No body was ever found. Ivy — her daughter — thought it was something else. One night, she searched the locked drawer Maria had forbidden her to touch. Inside — a single photograph. David. Smiling. Alive. And on the back... a date. Three weeks after his funeral. Ivy took it to the only photo shop in town. The owner studied it — then his face changed. 'I know this man,' he whispered. 'He came in here three days ago.' He said David told him not to tell anyone he was alive. Ivy drove home without saying a word. The photograph trembled in her hand. Maria was waiting at the front door. She wasn't surprised. She looked at the photograph and sighed. 'You found it.' Ivy could barely speak. 'Mom — where is Dad?' Maria looked toward the dark hallway. 'I was hoping you'd never ask.' Then — the lights went out. A voice came from the hallway. Not Maria's. 'Let me tell her, Maria... She deserves to hear it from me.'
